♥ asks: BRACES BEHIND YOUR TEETH?

“Okay so my teeth have a lot of problems, i used to have an under bite but now two of my teeth in the front are going back into an under bite, and my jaw is shifting slowly one way because of it. another problem is that i act, and i got a callback from an agency, and im not sure if they would want me because im getting braces (i didn't ask them or tell them that im going to get braces yet). i asked my orthodontist today if i could get invisalign but he said my teeth has a bigger issue so invisalign wont work. he suggested clear braces, but apparently they stain. But i forgot to ask him about braces behind your teeth, ive heard that it works really well with people who have major problems with their teeth and needs to straighten them out. but ive also heard it hurts, and it could affect your speech? is this true? but anyway i found the site: http://www.lingualcare.com/ their called iBraces. I just want to know if this is good, and if i should get them, If anyone has had this , or if anyone could help me or give me advice i will truly appreciate it! Thank you!”

Braces behind the teeth SOUND like a great idea but yes, they affect your speech, yes, they hurt (braces will hurt no matter what) AND they will cut your tongue and leave it sore... and your orthodontist might not recommend it...

I personally cannot imagine the world of hurt I experienced on my cheeks and lips during my braces experience inflicted on my tongue. Afterall, when my teeth hurt so much I couldn't chew, my tongue was doing the "mashing" for me.

Talk to your orthodontist about it. I've seen a few fashion models, if that's the kind of agency you're talking about with braces so I wouldn't worry too much.

Miranda C. asks: "AHH, WILL MY TEETH MOVE? :/ PLEASEE READD..THANKSS !?

"okay so i got my braces off in augustt 2008.
my orthodentist gave me a retainor to help my bite, NOT a retainor to keep my teeth from moving. she said to come back in thrree months.

well...about that :/

its beeen...nine months..and i didn't wear my retainorr for my bitee constantly..its removablee and she said i can wear it wen i come home from school since i cant talk with it in..and well i never did it very often at all...

i do it here and there but now, HARDLY.

and im scared that my teeth are gonna move..my predictions are that her plans were to give me my bite retainor for three months..come back with my bite being fixed..and then once i come back she'll givve me a retainor to prevent my teeth from moving...

but since i never rele wore my retainor for my bite, if i go back now..she"ll like yell at me for not wearing it ...but i want to go backk bc i thinkmy teeth are starting to move...not noticalbe..but i noticed if i felt my one side of my toop teeth, one tooth is getting a little outta place compared to the other side..
and im RELE scared that my teeth will moveee and be all crookeddd..my teeth were SOOOOO bad before i got braces..likee nooooo jokeee..so..any opinionss?

should i tryy to start wearing my bite retainor and in three months go backk and see wat she says about my teeth?

or should i just go back right awayy..idk if she"ll yell at me tho...

and how long does it take for your teeth to movee after you get ur braces off without a retainor..PLEASE HELP IM SCARED OVER THIS...thank youuss :)"

I would definitely start wearing the retainer for your bite. If it feels like it doesn't fit then call your orthodontist. They can check your teeth and see if the retainer needs to be replaced or if your teeth have moved to the point where you may need braces again.

3 months after August 2008 was November 2008... so technically, it's been 9 months since you've gotten your braces off. She's not going to yell at you BUT she might tell you that you have to work with what you've got... meaning, wear the bite retainer that you have and that's all she can do because you're no longer considered a patient of hers since it took so long for you to come back.

It all depends on the policy in the office. And if you're nervous, say so!! Tell the receptionist, tell the assistant, tell the dentist, tell everybody! Dentists are people too and the one thing they hate to hear is that people are afraid of them. They'll try to make you comfortable IF they still consider you a patient.

But definitely start wearing your retainer...

Annest asks: "TONGUE WORRY? ANY IDEA WHAT I CAN DO?"

“The doctor just told me that i have a Geographic Tongue and there's nothing i can really do about it!!!. It can get very sore and uncomfortable to eat any advice??

(I eat healthily and am other ways in great shape)
Please help i don't want to have this for ever!!

Thank you for any advice x.x.x.x”

Geographic tongue, or migratory glossitis is totally normal.

The reason you may get spots on your tongue can range anywhere from being stressed or being hormonal, like getting your period.

The tongue is covered with tiny papillae that shed with time, like hair. Only with Geographic tongue, some areas shed papillae at a much faster rate, leaving bald spots that look and feel raw.

There's no cure BUT you can avoid certain foods to make the experience less painful. Anything citrus like lemon or pineapple, tomato sauces, anything super hot, coffee, pizza, etc.

It can be annoying but sometimes it will go away. I have a few friends who have it and have had it forever and haven't gotten rid of it yet.

Try rinsing with Biotene mouthwash. It's usually for people who have dry mouth but it can soothe the soreness you may feel. Also, the Mayo Clinic has some treatment options that you can discuss with your doctor here:

.bambi. asks: "SHOULD MY MIDLINE STILL BE OFF?"

"I'm in the last stage of my braces (only about a month to go) and my midline is way off. The orthodontist hasn't said anything about it, he's just focused on moving some teeth in the back and then he says he can take them off. His assistant mentioned my midline and one tooth not yet being fixed last time I was in, but I'm afraid to mention it to him because I just want my braces OFF! Does he know what he's doing? Will my midline be straight when my braces come off?"

First, we should establish a common understanding of the so-called 'midline', meaning the line created between your top front teeth and your bottom front teeth...

That midline is commonly off center. It doesn't affect the 'straightness' of your teeth and if it's a significant difference, it can't be corrected easily. If the doctor says you're good to go, get them off and don't worry about the midline. Unless it's a huge problem for you, mention it and see what he says.

Btw, if you really never want to be in braces again, wear your retainer as directed... Your teeth WILL go back to the way they were if you don't. Congrats on getting them off soon!
